Importance of Maintenance Phase for SEO

When it comes to SEO, there are two general phases. The first is the initial work, which includes keyword research, optimizing the site pages, and performing technical checks to ensure that everything is performing correctly. The other phase we are concerned about is the maintenance phase, and there are several reasons why it’s so important not to skip this part. Here’s a look at why the maintenance phase for SEO is so important:

Improve Results Over Time

The ultimate goal of any SEO program is to set the website up for success in the search engines. Sure, the initial, Phase 1 efforts do help with this, but without the maintenance SEO phase, the results will never reach their peak. Posting regular content on a schedule is something that is part of our SEO maintenance phase, and we’ve found that this regular content posting goes a long way to helping the website become more visible in search results.

This is because each article that is posted has the potential to return in the search engines for multiple keyword-driven search results. Sure, your static pages might get returned in search results, but the more pages of helpful content you have on your website the better.

Monitor SEO Performance

Another important part of SEO maintenance phase is in the monitoring. We regularly check your website’s statistics, looking for clues that the organic search results are starting to go up. Although it could take months, or sometimes even years, for the results to peak, there are usually early signs of improvement after just a month or two. We like to see these early signs because then we know that our strategy is on the right track.

This can also help us monitor other aspects of the program, which take regular, ongoing work. For example, having a solid backlink portfolio is essential to SEO, but it’s too easy for bad links to creep in. When we find the bad links, we disavow them, which is a process that basically asks Google not to count them. In order to be able to do this, we need to monitor things. (We use a tool called SEMRush to do this).

Regular Use of Third-Party Tools

As mentioned above, we use a third part tool to help us with our backlink monitoring, which is an important part of the Maintenance SEO Phase. In order to really do an SEO program justice, you really do need to involve third party tools, and we have several that we use. If businesses were to get these tools themselves, they would have to spend a considerable chunk of change. This is a benefit to allowing us to continue our SEO work in the maintenance phase as long as possible. These tools are expensive, and you can take advantage of them being used on your website without having to spend money on them.

As you can see, the maintenance phrase of SEO is a crucial part of the process for many reasons. Not doing this phase properly will lead to the results not being as good as they could be.
