Brand Identity on Social Media

Written by Nick Stamoulis

Social media requires brand identity for success for the success and growth of your brand. Competition is great and you need to be able to not only attract but keep your target audience focused on you. A strong brand identity will help you to create a more efficient and effective social media strategy. Here’s what you should know about strengthening your brand identity on social media:

Showcase Your Uniqueness

You know there is a lot of competition for people’s attention online, especially on social media. Your brand identity is the personality of your business. You need to be able to communicate to your audience what your values are and what sets you apart from your competitors. You can showcase your uniqueness first with visuals. This would include your brand logo and colors as well as the colors that you use. The tone of your brand, or your voice, is another way your audience will become familiar with you. Are you known for making them laugh? Do you inspire them?

The uniqueness of your brand also includes what you have to offer your target audience. If you are selling a product or service, what differentiates it from other products on the market? You need to communicate a clear purpose and value that your audience cannot pass on.

Content That Resonates

Knowing your target audience well is going to help you create the type of content that they want to consume. You wouldn’t approach an audience of 30-somethings in the same way you would an audience of 50-somethings. You need to be able to resonate with your audience and become a familiar brand to them, both in your tone and the topics that you cover.

Your content also needs to tie in with your established brand identity. If you’re a serious brand, you won’t put out humorous content. This will only confuse your audience and make them think you’re not for them. The voice of your brand will reflect your values.

Get to know your target audience through market research, conducting surveys, and observing them on social media. Who are the following? What questions are they asking? What is the feedback they are providing to you and your competition?

Measure Results

Improving your brand identity and brand awareness on social media requires measuring the results of your efforts. Once you have taken actionable steps to get your brand identity on the right track, you can keep track of your social media engagement, followers, and mentions. Always be watching for areas where you can improve.

By monitoring posts, you can get a clear idea of what resonates with your audience and what misses the mark. Metrics are important to understanding how your brand identity is performing. You can also search social media for your branded hashtags to see what people are saying about you. Use this information to your brand identity’s advantage.

Your digital marketing strategy relies heavily on your social media brand identity. People are on social media, so you not only want to be there as well, but you want a strong presence so that people will notice and become familiar with you.
