The White Hat Creation of SEO Backlinks

Written by Nick Stamoulis

It’s true that backlinks are an important part of any great SEO strategy. The issue is, getting backlinks has to be done in a “white hat” way, or else they won’t be effective and can even do more harm than good. Google says:

Google uses links as an important factor in determining the relevancy of web pages. Any links that are intended to manipulate rankings in Google Search results may be considered link spam.

Essentially, this means that you should attract backlinks without even trying, but there are some things that can be done to make sure links are attracted naturally. Any activity specifically designed to get backlinks could be considered SPAM, and therefore won’t be “white hat”. Here’s how it works:

Your Website Should Have Value

Your number one concern should be to put together a website that has value towards your audience. It doesn’t matter what kind of business you have; this is a universal concept that translates no matter what industry you are in. When a member of your audience arrives on your website, will they be happy or frustrated? If you think they will find what they need, then it is safe to assume that your website has value for them. If you suspect they won’t find everything that they need, consider making changes so that your website is considered valuable to them.

Create Excellent Content

The core of your website should be the content that you post, either through a blog or articles section, though the static pages, or a combination of both of these. You see, this is the core of how to get great backlinks. When your audience determines your content has value, they are more likely to want to share it to others through social media, on their websites, and in their personal lives. When people are excited to share your content, this is how natural backlinks are created. However, in order for this to work, you need to make sure that your content is connecting to your audience.

Market Your Business Naturally

So, your main concern is to expose your business to the people who would embrace your product or service. This is done through marketing. By getting the word out about the word out about your business, the more likely it is that you will develop natural backlinks. Here’s are some examples as to how this could work:

  • Press release. You send out a press release when you launch a new product, and some online publications are interested in you product so shared a link to your website to their readers.
  • Social media. Although social media doesn’t create direct links, this could be an avenue to get your content noticed. If someone finds your link in social media and they wanted to share this discovery with others, it could eventually lead to natural link building.
  • Articles. When you write an article and post it on your blog or website, if people find it helpful, they may link to it on their own website.

The goal is to take every opportunity you can get to get the word out about your business, as long as it connects you to your ideal audience. By doing this, you will have a chance to attract people who care about you. When they care, they might also want to spread the word about you, and that is where the natural link building occurs.
