Content is such an important part of your overall digital marketing plan. Everything that you do related to marketing connects to your content, both directly and indirectly, depending on the marketing channel. Not only that, but the content strategies that are associated and aligned with digital marketing and with the overall business goals.
Businesses need to balance honoring the parts of digital marketing that have always worked with the changes to digital marketing because of the rise of AI search. Content needs to fit so many roles! How do brands honor all of these roles at the same time? This makes having a structured content strategy a necessity.
Well-Structured Content Builds Trust
One of the things that a well-structured content strategy does is build trust with your audience. When people look for information about you, they want to be able to easily find what they need. If they are able to do that, they feel happy, think highly of your brand, and then decide they can trust you. No matter where they are in the sales cycle, it is important that all your content is easy to find.
The reason for this is that audiences love clarity and transparency. Content strategies that are disorganized leave the visitor feeling frustrated. Audiences want to know exactly what they’re getting when they land on a piece of content, and they want to find the information they need as easily as possible. If it’s easy (well-structured) this leaves the visitor feeling happening, and this, in turn, builds trust.
AI Search Engines Rely On Structure
As AI use gets more prevalent, and AI search becomes increasingly important, it has become clear that we may need to make some tweaks in order for our content to get seen. The AI engines rely on structured content strategies to help them acquire information. They organize their own responses based on patterns they find in the content or in the ecosystem. What happens when there isn’t a clear structure? Well, AI can’t understand your content and what place it will hold in its search results.
This has transformed structure from a writing best practice to an actual discoverability requirement. Brands that adopt structured content now will be easier for AI engines to identify and surface, giving them an advantage over competitors still creating unstructured and random content that doesn’t fit any clear plan.
Structured Content Keeps the Customer Journey Organized
Every brand website should have content that aligns with all phases of the buying cycle. Even if much of your marketing funnel is now taking place off your website, as is the case for industries most impacted by AI, you still need to treat your website as an authoritative source of information about you. No one knows who you are better than you do!
Structure from within the customer journey assures that your content coverts all the bases. It also improves cohesion in your messaging. This is all beneficial to both humans and machines.
Humans and machines (AI) both prefer a structured content strategy. AI needs to see your structure in order to find your information to return in its results. Audiences love quickly and easily finding the information they need. Taking the time to develop a great content structure is worth it on many levels.
