When it comes to getting help for your marketing, the misconception is that this outside help may make your existing team irrelevant. The truth is, while it may be ideal to have an in-house staff to handle most of the marketing tasks, there could be some skills gaps to account for. In the case, it makes perfect sense to look to outside sources to fill these gaps.
What if the skills gap comes in the form of lacking adequate marketing leadership? This is an expensive issue to solve if you default to hiring someone in-house. The reality is, you might not need to take things that far. All you might need is to find someone to come in, solve a few problems, train the existing staff, and then move on.
This is basically the arrangement that could be made by hiring a Fractional CMO. It doesn’t make your existing team irrelevant. In fact, this arrangement could make things a lot better. Here’s a look at how a Fractional CMO can boost your existing team, not replace it.
Give Your Strategy New Life
Your existing team is perfectly capable of performing the marketing tasks that you may need to perform. However, what is lacking, could be a lack of focused strategy, either because your strategy is nonexistent or because your existing strategy is outdated.
In this case, what you need is not to bring on board a new employee to oversee the department as a whole. Your marketing department can handle the work. No, in this case, what is needed is someone to create the strategy and find the best, most efficient way to implement the strategy. In this case, the existing team is boosted, not replaced.
Create an Empowering Environment
A lot of times, the marketing department can feel a bit forgotten amongst all the other tasks that need to get done in the company. That isn’t to say that marketing’s job shouldn’t be valued. The truth is, marketing departments often need advocates, and without proper marketing leadership, that doesn’t leave many options for advocacy.
Fractional CMOs know how to empower your staff. They can become the advocate. This will make them so much better at their jobs! This is another example of how a Fractional CMO can uplift your team.
Develop a Culture with a Growth Mindset
Too often, we have seen marketing departments shrink in the background. They are so focused on getting their work down, that they don’t necessarily stop to consider if that work is necessary or will help the company grow. In other words, in failing to develop a strategic plan and setting up scalable systems, this causes them to fade in the distance.
What happens when empowered? Well, the marketing department develops a growth mindset. All because they had the right leadership. This is empowerment at its finest, and is another reason why Fractional CMOs make existing teams better.
The bottom line is that existing team members shouldn’t feel scared if the C-Suite brings in a Fractional CMO to enhance the marketing department. Most Fractionals are temporary. They not only solve problems, but can boost the existing team, not put their jobs at risk.
