As a B2B, you may have a long sales cycle, but your business still needs to be adaptable. Industry trends, changing customer needs, launching new products or services, these are just some examples of reasons why you need to be adaptable. It’s all too easy to get lulled into a false sense that your strategy can stay the same throughout all these changes.

The problem is, without the right internal resources, it’s difficult to scale anything as the business grows. You not only need the right resources; you need the right leadership. This is especially true for digital marketing. Here are some thoughts as you think about how to adapt while you grow.

Difference Between Tactics and Strategy

Before deciding how to scale your digital marketing, you need to ask yourself if you even have a strategy in the first place. Many B2Bs mistake busy work, also known as “tactics” as a strategy. Well, doing a series of activities, like posting content and social media, is not a strategy. These are just tactics, and without a strategic big-picture plan, they won’t help you achieve your goals.

You need to clean this up and make sure that you have a digital marketing strategy from the beginning. This will benefit your business over the long term, making it easier to scale when the time comes. You need to understand the difference between tactics, which tend to be on the smaller side, to having a legitimate strategy before you can proceed. Think about it this way – you need to have a strategy in the first place before you can adapt!

Consider Ways to Streamline Tasks

It’s all too easy to fall into a routine when it comes to implementing all the work that needs to be done. We go through the motions of implementing any strategies that we have, and we tend to put this work on autopilot in the daily flow of our days. Meanwhile, the world around us may be moving on and moving forward, meaning, there could be a lot of tools out there that you may not know about that can help you streamline.

Without going into details about what these tools may be (because that is always fluctuating), just consider your current processes and really think through if your time can be better served elsewhere and some of your typical tasks can be streamlined by utilizing some new technologies or tools.

Improve the Quality of New Business

Directly related to scaling is the assumption that you will need to attract high-quality customers. Scaling means that you will be increasing the pace of your current business strategies to bring in more or better business. There are so many ways to do this, and it all starts with altering your marketing strategy to accommodate the new goals.

It is worth nothing, though, that it is difficult to scale unless you have the right leadership or the right resources in-house. Someone needs to oversee the process, and if you don’t have someone to do that, you should look into making the happen. These moves will considerably improve things, and also help you scale more efficiently.
