Are Verified Social Accounts Worth It?
Categorized in: Social Media
When you sign up for social media, you may notice that there is an increasing trend that platforms ask you to pay an extra fee to become “verified”. These social media sites attach extra perks with the fee, but you might be wondering if it’s really worth it. We think it is, but it’s totally up to you if you decided to do it.
Keep in mind that many of the benefits are based on our observations over time. So, everyone could have a different experience. Here are some reasons why it could be worth getting verified on social media platforms.
Increased Credibility
Think about your own behaviors while browsing through social media. What happens when you encounter someone has been verified? Chances are pretty good that you automatically assume that they are credible. At least, that’s what most of us do. When you have a choice to click two separate accounts. They are rival businesses, but one is verified and one isn’t. Which one are you more likely to click?
Since you may assume that the one that has been verified is more credible, you would likely click that one and not the one that hasn’t been verified. When you have been verified, it creates a sense of authenticity amongst your audience that you may have and to work a lot harder for otherwise.
Builds Trust
Another benefit of getting verified is that it automatically builds trust. When you see the verified symbol by their name, you know that they are exactly who they say they are. This is a big deal in the age where it is a lot easier to hide who you really are. The verification is a seal of approval in the eyes of social media users, so when they see it, they are automatically ready to trust you.
The reason this works to build trust is that your audience will give you the benefit of the doubt right away. They will assume that the platform already vetted you, so they won’t need to work as hard to verify your identity. What happens if you got verified but your competitors didn’t? Well, you’d get the automatic edge over them.
More Visibility
Social media platforms may not tell you this, but it’s possible that you’d get better exposure if you were verified. The reason for this is simple. If you are paying money, the platform may choose to reward you by giving you increased visibility.
However, there’s no real way to know if it’s the verification itself that caused your increased visibility, or of it is the increased engagement you may have received because you were verified that increased your exposure. Whether directly or indirectly caused, getting verified does seem to stimulate something in their back end, resulting in you getting a lot more expose than you normally would have.
The truth is, it couldn’t hurt to become verified and could only help. If you can build a quicker sense of trust with your target audience, it may result in you getting new customers sooner than later over the long term.
