SEO Is More Than Just Analytics

Written by Nick Stamoulis

Every business will have some unique needs when creating an SEO program. There are things that will always be needed though, such as link building, social media, and content marketing. When creating and working on your strategy, you may find yourself analyzing day-to-day activities more than you should. It’s good to know what’s happening and the results of your efforts, but you don’t want to obsess.

An SEO program will require patience and consistency. It can take months and sometimes longer to see the results. Here are some things to consider when you find yourself overanalyzing the analytics of your SEO programs:

Keyword Research Doesn’t Need To Be Overdone

Keyword research is crucial, but it’s something that you need to do on a weekly or monthly basis. Once you have a list of keywords that can be worked naturally into your content, you’re good to go. These keywords will likely remain what is searched for and therefore your content will be found through the search engines and social media. You can revisit your keyword list by doing research every six to twelve months if you want, but don’t obsess over finding “better” keywords constantly.

Create Content For Your Target Audience

Creating content that is tailored for your target audience is an important part of your SEO program. Content should always be created with your audience in mind because they are the ones searching for and consuming the information you have to offer.

Analytics can help you to determine what would best work, but you don’t need to go to these lengths if you know the needs of your target audience. Instead of creating content for keywords, create content for the consumers and work keywords in after where they naturally fit. Readers can tell when content is stuffed with keywords and this is a turn-off.

Stick With Your SEO Plan

A customized SEO program is intended to benefit your business’ goals and unique needs. Once you have a program created for your business, it’s important to stick with it and see it through for a determined amount of time. If you become obsessed with looking at analytics, you may feel the need to change your program when visitor numbers aren’t as high as they were the week before or you are ranking slightly lower.

SEO is a long-term investment that will pay off if you stick with it. If you’re constantly changing the plan in hopes of consistently doing better, you will hinder your progress. Fluctuations are normal with any SEO programs.

Use Social Media To Your Benefit

When it comes to generating traffic, developing credibility, and branding your company, social media can play a large role. When using social media, it can be easy to focus on the number too much. How many likes are your posts getting? How many shares? How many comments? It’s good to know which type of posts get the most attention, but don’t obsess over the numbers. Think of social media as a supplement to your marketing campaign.

As long as you can see the kind of content your target audience is drawn to, you don’t have to obsess over the rest and it will help you create more content tailored for them.

Analytics are great to have access to as long as you make sure you don’t obsess over the results. If you overthink, you’re bound to make unnecessary changes to your marketing campaign too often and therefore hinder positive results that may be around the corner.
