Your comfort zone is a safe space that provides routine, predictability, and low levels of stress. A comfort zone can also hold you back by keeping you in the same place when you could be seeing growth and success. This applies to both life and digital marketing.

If you’re willing to step outside of your digital marketing comfort zone, you will reap the benefits. Maybe you don’t realize you’re stuck in your comfort zone or don’t know how to get out. Here’s what you should know:

Sticking With the Known

When it comes to digital marketing, you may have a tactic you started with, learned in depth, and become comfortable with. Even when it’s not working the way it used to or the way you expected, you stick with it. It’s important to know what’s working and what isn’t within your digital marketing strategy. If your chosen tactic isn’t working after 6 months or a year despite your best efforts, it’s time to look into alternatives.

Sticking with a tactic because you’ve invested time and money on it might seem like the right move, but if it isn’t working, it isn’t contributing to achieving the goals of your business. Be willing to take a chance on something you’re not familiar with.

Using Only One Tactic

As mentioned, you may have one digital marketing tactic that you have invested your time and money on. When you’ve devoted so much to one avenue, it can be uncomfortable to change your approach or add something new. The truth is, using only one digital marketing method probably won’t help you to achieve the goals you have for your business. It takes multiple strategies, such as SEO, content marketing, social media marketing, and online advertising, just to name a few, to help a business increase the reach of their message, gain a following and customers, and improve revenue.

Even if your one chosen approach is getting positive results, having multiple strategies will work across different mediums. By sticking with one tactic, you are limiting your reach and overall success. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and add new digital marketing methods to your strategy.

Following the Crowd

It’s easy to look at successful companies’ digital marketing strategies and want to imitate them in hopes of creating that same success for yourself. Unfortunately, just because one company is using a strategy with good results, doesn’t mean you will as well. Blindly following the crowd is another version of a comfort zone. Instead of exploring your options and finding what will work for your business, you do what someone else is doing and cross your fingers it will work for you as well. To find success, you must be willing to take a risk and find out what works for your business.

Staying Up-To-Date

When it comes to digital marketing, technology and ideas are always evolving. It’s important that you keep up with what’s happening and not get left behind. As other businesses keep up with what’s happening and adjust their digital marketing strategies accordingly, they will continue to see success. By staying in your comfort zone and doing what you’ve always done, you risk being left behind. While the tactics you employ may have been successful in the past, they may no longer be relevant or useful.

Stepping outside of your comfort zone with your digital marketing might seem like a risk, but it’s a good risk to take. Continuing to invest in a strategy that isn’t paying off for your business might be comfortable, but it is the wrong move for your success.
