Create Content That Builds Trust Over Time

When people decide to become customers at a particular business, it’s because they have decided to trust that business. This is one of those basic facts that we’ve taken for granted. We know that we need to become trusted brands, but we often don’t spend much time thinking of it. This is something that we need to prioritize, though, if we haven’t already.

One of the ways you can build trust between you and your audience is through your content. This can mean the content that you post on various internet platforms, as well as the content that you share on your own company websites. Your content strategy should be wherever your audience is, and it should also be of value to them. This is what builds trust.

Here’s more information about why it is important to develop content that builds trust:

Consistency Matters More Than You Think

Consistency is your greatest super power as a digital marketer, and it is often the thing that is the biggest struggle. You don’t need a perfect content calendar or an aggressive posting schedule. You just need to show up on a regular basis. Define what that means, and then stick with it.

When someone comes across your content more than once, it starts to register. They remember your name, your company, or even just the way you explain things. That recognition builds over time, and it makes your brand feel more familiar. If your content is sporadic, it’s harder for that to happen. You might have strong individual pieces, but they don’t connect into anything larger. Trust comes from repetition, not one-off effort.

Focus Content on What Your Audience Wants

A lot of content is created from the business’s point of view instead of the target audience. This is where trust is often broken, and unfortunately, businesses often don’t realize they are doing it! If they want to read about your company, they will click the about page on your website. When they want to find information about something, they want their expectations met.

People aren’t looking for general information. They’re trying to figure something out. They have a question, a problem, or a decision they’re working through. Your content should meet them there. If your content aligns with how people actually ask questions and gives them a clear answer, this elevates you in their minds and builds trust.

Generate Content the Gives Reasons to Return

There’s a difference between content that gets read once and content that people return to. Trust sits in that second category. You need to give them a reason to return! Give them new information, expose them to new ideas, you can even present old ideas from new angles. Once someone in your audience connects with you through the trust you built, they’ll keep coming back.

Over time, that creates a pattern. Your content starts to feel consistent, not scattered. When that happens, people are more likely to seek you out again instead of just landing on your content by chance.

You can build trust through your content! If it is consistent, relevant, and easy to engage with, that decision becomes a lot easier for them to make.
