It’s true that there is a lot that goes into creating a great SEO program and one that is tailored to the specific needs of the business. However, there are certain components that will always be present, such as content marketing, social media, and link building.
Despite that, there is still a danger of taking things too far by worrying too much about the day to day activities. It is a long term process and its success depends on how consistent you are. Don’t fall into the trap of making it too complicated by overanalyzing the program! Here are some things to keep in mind:
Develop a Tailored Program and Stick With It
The very first thing to keep in mind is that each business should have a customized SEO program that will work for their specific needs and goals. On the surface, this may look complex, but really there are always some things that need to occur. It’s just a matter of tailoring the details. It’s all too easy to let the analytics dictate the process, but that shouldn’t be the case. Analytics can be helpful, but it isn’t everything. It is important to develop a customized SEO Program that includes all the standard elements, such as keyword
Don’t Obsess Over Keyword Research
Effective keyword research uses a combination of keyword research tools plus human thought. It is one thing to use tools to spit out lists, but quite another to find the absolute best keywords for this business. In this case, more is not better. Keyword research using tools is helpful, but the main thing is to find the words that can be naturally worked into the content and that best express the business and express the user intent of each of the pages.
Develop Content for the Audience
This is an important element of every SEO and marketing program, but not every type of content will suit the business’s needs. Content should be written with the audience in mind and should service both potential and existing customers. Sure, you could use analytics to determine this, but a lot of content creation has to do with simply understanding the needs of your customer base. Many marketers make the mistake of creating content for keywords, not users, but the opposite is actually true.
Social Media Should Enhance Your Marketing
Social media has a variety of purposes, such as generating traffic, branding the company, and developing credibility. Sure, you could get bogged down with analytics and data and think too much about what the numbers are. However, it is important to keep in mind that social media is another item that should serve the customer base. Analytics can help with things such as determining posting frequency, audience demographics, and traffic. However, there is a lot more to it than can be determined through data. Overall, you need to make sure your customer base is happy.
Overall, it is important to realize that analytics can be uses as a tool that will help assess progress and maybe even help create an optimum SEO and marketing strategy. However, it can make this complicated quickly. You’re not always best servicing your customers by obsessing over data.
