Alignment of Content and Social Media

Written by Nick Stamoulis

Social media and your content marketing might seem like they are separate and unrelated activities, but they are more connected than you might think. You know that using one digital marketing channel alone doesn’t work effectively. In many cases, the channels are also linked with each other. If you want your digital marketing efforts to succeed, understanding the connection between the two and aligning them is important. Here’s what you need to know:

Consistent Brand Voice

When creating content, you have a tone that you use to communicate with your target audience. This is how your audience comes to know you and relate to you. If your social media uses a different voice, this is going to confuse your audience. You should focus on making sure that there is consistency in your messaging, style, and tone throughout your content and social media. Both social media and content are powerful tools for promoting your brand or business.

Consider the types of words and phrases that you want to define your business and give you a clear identity. Your audience should be able to read your content and social media posts knowing it’s coming from the same place. This being said, you don’t want to sound monotonous. You can adjust your voice or words and phrases when necessary.

Know Your Goals

You should have goals for both your content and social media platforms. In order to align both channels, this is a necessary task. Goals to consider include:

  • Increasing likes, shares, and follows
  • Driving traffic to your website
  • Selling your product or service
  • Offering valuable information
  • Increasing leads
  • Increasing brand awareness

These goals can be achieved by using both content and social media marketing. When you align the goals of both channels, you are more likely to succeed. Creating content for your website and blog can be shared on your social media, which will drive traffic back to your website, but may also help to improve your social media following as well when people share your posts. Social media and content work hand-in-hand to achieve your overall business goals.

Create a Content Calendar

A content calendar benefits not only your blog content but your social media content as well. When you know what’s planned for one channel, you can plan the other channel accordingly. You may run sales on your services or products throughout the year. If you advertise your sales on social media, you can align your content by teaching your target audience exactly how purchasing from you will benefit their life and goals and make their life easier. It’s difficult to make sales if consumers don’t know why they should be purchasing from you. You can also co-ordinate any holiday themed posts and content you may be planning. This can be accomplished by creating a content calendar to keep messaging consistent and on-brand.

By aligning your content marketing and your social media marketing, you help to increase brand awareness along with engagement. This alignment makes you recognizable to your followers and customers. They will see your brand through the sea of posts and know it’s you, making them more likely to click in and see what you have to offer.
