Patience is Key When it Comes to SEO

Written by Nick Stamoulis

Search engine optimization, also known as SEO, is an important part of creating a successful business. While it is well worth the time and energy, SEO can feel like a slow process.

Unfortunately, there is no way to speed up this process. As a website owner, you won’t see immediate results. In many cases it can take months or years to see the payoff for the hard work. Why does SEO take so long before results can be seen? Here are a few reasons:

There is a lot of content online

If you’ve ever done a search online, you know that the number of results that come back is astronomical. Not only that, but more content is being added every day. While it’s not all competition for your content, many pages will be.

The things that you are doing online such as updating your social media and posting new blog posts are the things that other website owners are doing as well. So how do you compete with other website owners for that coveted high ranking spot? Posting regularly will help to attract the attention of the search engines and eventually help you to rank higher.

This is a process that takes time though. Posting regularly for a few weeks or months isn’t going to do the trick. Stay committed to posting regularly for the long haul. You don’t have to post daily for this to work. In fact, that is probably the wrong way to go as you are more likely to burn out quickly. Deciding to post new blogs once or twice a week is more manageable for both you and your visitors. The act of posting regularly will help you to create an online “footprint,” which is important for SEO.

Gaining the trust of search engines takes time

When you do a search, the results that appear on the first page did not land there by accident or luck. These sites have gained the trust of the search engines over time. Gaining trust is done through a number of factors including link building, the age of a website, and keywords used.

You cannot do anything about the age of your website except to remain patient and continue adding valuable content that gets noticed. You can help drive traffic to your website by sharing your content on social media. Researching and using the most relevant keywords is also important now and in the long term.

Once you are considered a trusted website, pages that contain keywords and key phrases that users are searching for will begin to rank high in the results. Backlinks also help improve SEO, but this also takes time.
