Communication Is Key for an SEO Partnership
Smart companies know by now that if they want to have any success with their website, they need to get involved in search engine optimization. This isn’t an undertaking that should be taken lightly. SEO is a process that not only takes time to understand, but also takes time to implement. Everything from keyword research to on site optimization and link building needs to be done well. It’s not a process that can merely be slapped together last minute by an entry level associate. Businesses that understand that they don’t have the time or the resources to handle it themselves must take the logical next step and hire an SEO consultant or an SEO agency. What SEO clients need to realize is that once a contract is signed, they aren’t done with the SEO on their end. For the most part, the consultant or agency will take over the bulk of the work; however the client needs to be in touch with their agency on a consistent basis. Communication is extremely important, especially when anything out of the ordinary happens for the client. The relationship between an SEO company and a client should be viewed as a partnership on both sides. Essentially, the SEO agency is an extension of the client’s marketing department and needs to be kept in the loop.
SEO is an important aspect of marketing and marketing should accurately represent a company or a brand to its stakeholders. If a company is going to change any aspect of its business model or promotional strategy, its SEO partner needs to know. This includes everything from changing the brand, the advertising strategy, the public relations, the image, the logo, etc. Even the tiniest change can have SEO implications since good SEO integrates all aspects of a brand and company into the strategy. In order to achieve good results an SEO company needs all of the background information and tools and ammunition to succeed as possible.
A client should think of its SEO company as an employee. When the employee is new, the company should take the time to train them and ensure that they know the business model and understand the brand before starting any complicated tasks that have important business implications. Even when an employee has settled in, the communication should never stop. All employees should be in the loop at all times and know what is going on at the company that they work for. If this isn’t the case, it’s a problem. If an SEO partner doesn’t know what is going on with its clients, the SEO strategy could be outdated, which will only hurt the client in the long run.
It’s important to let your SEO partner know about any company news or changes ASAP, especially if it is going to change the online marketing approach. Don’t drop the ball about any changes last minute, because in most cases the SEO strategy has been built ahead of time. Ultimately, a client will succeed in their SEO when they work cooperatively with their SEO partner and engage in consistent communication.
