Your Website Visitors First, SEO Second!
If you want your website to be a success, you have to know something about SEO. Part of this involves getting in the minds of the people who will actually come to your site. A lot of times it’s hard to think of yourself as a user and not a webmaster, but it’s something you have to do if you want to make yourself easy to find. By putting yourself in the mindset of your audience, you will be able to see how people are looking for you. You can play into that as much as possible.
One thing you need to think of is what keywords your users are using to find your website. This could be discovered through a bit of keyword research. Thinking about what people will be looking for when they come to your website will ensure that you incorporate certain words into the content of your site. If you never use the terms that people type into a search engine to find you, you will never be found. Proper search engine optimization involves understanding how people think and tuning into that. Appeal to your readers’ minds.
While you want to use the terms you found as a result of your keyword research, you can’t stuff them into your content or social media marketing. Keyword stuffing is all over the internet, but it is highly unsuccessful. You still need to have content that is pertinent to your readers. Then you just weave certain keywords into it naturally. Think about what you would do if search engines weren’t around. If your SEO techniques don’t reflect that in some way, you aren’t actually thinking about your audience. You’re just thinking about a page rank. Get the numbers out of your head and get your audience in there instead.
You even need to think about your audience when you start mapping out your site. Each page should be easy to get to, and related content should be linked in a fluid manner. Your sitemap should not be terribly complicated, even for the most basic of internet users. Think about the computer abilities of the people you’re appealing to. How well will they be able to read your site and get to where you want them to go? If you think they will be confused, you need to adjust to their needs. Combine simple navigation with well planned SEO and you should have a perfect setup for traffic building.
