Make Sure You Have Time to Work With Your SEO Firm

Written by Nick Stamoulis

SEOWhen you hire an SEO firm, it’s important to make sure you have enough time to work with them. Sure, you trust their expertise. You have complete confidence that they’ll deliver great results. However, if you don’t have enough time to work with them, it will make it harder on them to execute the SEO plan. In order to truly find SEO success, you need to make yourself available to your firm and stay in the loop. In other words, you need to make them your partner. Here’s more information:

Take an active approach

We’ve had clients in the past who have taken a hands-off approach. While this is certainly a sign that they trust us, this isn’t necessarily ideal. This is because we often need client feedback to proceed to the next step. In other words, without feedback, certain aspects of the SEO plan can’t be executed and you may not get the results you expect. While it’s great when a company trusts us enough to step back an let us do our jobs, it isn’t a good idea to disappear completely.

Your SEO Firm Is Your Partner

It helps if you think of your SEO firm as a partner who will work closely with your marketing department to help maximize results. Like any partnership, it is formed on a foundation of mutual respect. Trusting experts with your SEO plan is a good move because they’ll be able to do their jobs. However, you’ll get a lot more out of the relationship if they’re looked at as a partner. True partnerships are collaborations. If you’re too hands off, then that can slow down the whole process.

Stay Involved With the Process

One thing to remember is that you really should stay involved with the process. They’ll let you know at the beginning of the relationship exactly what their expectations are. If they require approval for any aspect of the process, they expect that you’ll be available to review the information. In fact, they can’t proceed with the rest of the plan until they hear from you. If you’re too busy to give your approval and feedback, this will bring the whole process to a halt. When they don’t hear from you, they’ll be unable to proceed. By staying involved, you’ll be able to make the most of your partnership.

Make Sure You Don’t Micromanage

Micromanaging the process isn’t good, either. There is such a thing as being too involved. We’ve also had clients who spend too much time managing all the details of the SEO strategy. This isn’t a good approach, either. By micromanaging the firm, you don’t give them a chance to really put their knowledge to work for your company. If you’re expecting results, you need to step back and trust that they know exactly what is needed to help you get the results that you want. Even though giving your input is a valuable thing, at some point you need to trust that they will get the results you want, especially if they have a proven track record.

Instead, you need to be somewhere in the middle. You want to step back just enough to let them execute the best SEO strategy for your business. At the same time, you need to be available to answer any questions, give approval, and in general to collaborate on the best strategy for your business.
