No SEO Firm Can Guarantee a Ranking
Website owners are beginning to realize that it takes more than just registering a domain name and setting up a few pages of a website to find success online. In order for a website to accomplish anything it needs to be found. The main way that websites and the products and services that they offer are found online is through the search engines. Website owners that engage in search engine optimization are at a definite advantage over those that don’t. However, SEO takes time to do well. For that reason there is an abundance of SEO companies and consultants out there that want your business. It’s competitive and SEO companies try to differentiate themselves from the rest by offering something unique. While companies can offer everything from great customer service to numerous years of industry experience, there is one thing that they can’t guarantee – a number one ranking in the search engines. Any company that offers this is full of it, and you’d be best advised to stay away.
The search engine ranking factors for Google, Yahoo, and Bing are all secret. Nobody has all of the answers. Often the search engines will release helpful information for website owners and SEO professionals, but they don’t give it all away. A lot of it is trial and error and learning from the success and mistakes of others that are willing to share their experiences. Nobody can guarantee a ranking, especially because the search engine algorithms are always changing. Your page could be first, second, or third depending on the hour. The search engine spiders are constantly crawling and indexing pages which results in varying ranks.
Google has addressed the problem of SEOs that guarantee rankings and allege a “special relationship” with them. According to Google:
“There is no priority submit for Google. In fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is through our Add URL page or by submitting a Sitemap and you can do this yourself at no cost whatsoever.”
Google, and the other search engines, provide an equal opportunity for all websites, whether they belong to Fortune 500 companies or small Mom & Pop stores, to succeed. They don’t favor anybody. The search engines want to provide their users with the best search results possible. The key to success is to follow the search engine webmaster guidelines. If you really do some research, most of the answers (that are public knowledge) are out there. The key is to have a strategy and work hard at it. SEO never really ends. It needs to continually be worked at. Eventually, your efforts should result in an improved search engine ranking, but your site might not ever reach number one. This is especially true if you are in a very competitive space. Even if it doesn’t reach number one, it’s not the end of the world. The goal of an SEO campaign should be to get targeted traffic to your website that will convert, not to be number one in Google.
