If there are a few other competitors located in your city it may not be enough just to target the city within the keyword phrase, especially in a large city. Think about how many pizza places there are in New York City! Niche the location down even further to the neighborhood, street, area of town, zip code, what you are located near, etc. While these long tail keywords might not be used as frequently, implementing them will help you rank quicker for those terms. The broad terms like “NYC pizza place” can take a long time to rank for since it’s too competitive.
#2 Stay in touch
Many businesses still aren’t using social media to its full potential. They have brand pages and post every once in awhile, but it’s the businesses that are active and actually engage with followers that have the most success. Keep in touch with customers, patients, clients, etc. via social media. This can also help boost referrals and improve your search presence via stronger social signals.
#3 Get reviews
Review sites primarily focus on local businesses. Positive reviews on Google+, Yelp, and other local review sites contribute towards business success. People are looking for reviews before they make a purchase, book an appointment, or hire a business for services. Ask happy customers to give your business a positive review online and offer discounts to people that are willing to give a review. A common branded search term is “Brand Name review”. In addition, you can include a page on your own site that includes reviews and testimonials. It’s important to take control of your online brand reputation and monitor it over time.
