Some website owners truly believe that the only way they are ever going to rank well for their targeted keywords is to buy a keyword heavy microsite. This is simply not the case. Unless your microsite has a real purpose behind it, and is backed by a solid marketing and link building strategy, it only serves to dilute your brand and clutter the search results. Should one of your microsites actually outrank your main site, you have become your own competition! There are also rumblings within the SEO community that keyword-rich microsites are the next targets for a Google update.
