Stop Expecting Instant SEO Success!
When it comes to SEO success site owners have to be patient. As frustrating as it is to hear, SEO is a long term process that builds on itself over time. Momentum doesn’t come quick or easy but you have to remember that every little win each month (a few extra visitors, new keywords or referral links) in a step in the right direction. SEO is a marathon, not a sprint, so it’s best to buckle in for the long haul and stop looking for ways to ensure instant SEO success. Real, lasting SEO success comes to those who invest in their online brand, work to connect with and engage their target audience and build their industry authority and all of those things takes time if you want to do it right. While some website might see SEO success sooner than others, there are very few (if any) overnight SEO success stories out there.
Here are 3 reasons you can’t expect instant SEO success:
1. The search engines care about their users, not about your website.
While that sounds kind of harsh, it’s important to remember that the search engines don’t exist to help your business make money—they are there to help their customers which are the searchers, not the site owners. Your site has to help Google and Bing make their product better; if it does then your site also gets to benefit from a better position in the SERPs. But the success and failure of your website is not Google’s main concern and SEO success comes once your SEO program has to prove to the search engines time and time again that your site can and does make for a better search experience for their users.
2. You aren’t the only fish in the SEO sea.
The secret is out (and it has been for a long time); SEO is a great way to ensure your brand is found and noticed by your target audience online. Every day your potential customers are turning to the search engines to look for advice/information/help and those searchers can ultimately land on your doorstep. Unfortunately they can also end up on your competitors’ doorsteps just as easily, especially if they’ve been managing their own SEO campaign for a lot longer than you have. SEO success doesn’t come as easily as it once did because you aren’t the only one using SEO to get ahead. It’s going to take more time and effort to rise above the competition and make your website stand out.
3. Real success never comes quick, so why is SEO any different?
Do you expect any of your other marketing initiatives to turn a profit instantly? Does every single one of your plans to expand your company work perfectly overnight? Has your company been making money hand over first since the day you opened your doors? I’d wager no, so why are you expecting SEO success to behave any differently? Real, long-term, sustainable success takes time, commitment and hard-work. Even the world’s most profitable companies didn’t get that way overnight.
