Don’t Forget about LinkedIn!
When it comes to the social media networking world, Facebook and Twitter seem to get a lot of attention and are often considered the heavy hitters in the industry. However, LinkedIn is another important social media tool that is often overlooked. Unlike Facebook and Twitter, LinkedIn was created with professionals in mind solely for business networking purposes. LinkedIn provides valuable resources for job seekers, but that isn’t its only function. LinkedIn is also a great place for new and established companies looking to promote their brand.
While Facebook and Twitter serve numerous social purposes beyond business, LinkedIn is more of a B2B outlet in which business is the focus. LinkedIn allows a company to promote its products and services, network with other professionals, search for business leads, prospects, and partners, and establish credibility.
Like every other form of marketing on the web, in order to get the most out of LinkedIn it’s important to have an active account. Merely signing up and filling out the basic information isn’t going to get you anywhere. LinkedIn should be used as a tool to communicate with your target audience. Be sure to join industry groups and submit relevant and informative content regularly by posting your status, commenting, and answering questions that others might have. If you appear to know what you’re talking about and are helpful you will be able to earn a good reputation in your industry and it’s likely that you will get business leads out of it. You can also use the advanced search feature and look for potential leads to connect with.
It’s important to understand that a LinkedIn business profile is different than a personal profile. Of course they can link to each other, but it’s important to keep them separate. Remember to include a link to your company page and your blog on your business profile, since it’s possible that LinkedIn might be the first place that someone hears about you.
