Don’t Ditch Your Blog!

It’s no secret that blogging can be tough at times. After all, it takes time to brainstorm ideas of what to write about and make sure that the content is engaging and relevant to what your audience wants to read. Then, once you decide on a topic it takes more time to actually write it while ensuring that the sentences all make sense and flow in a logical manner. Of course, you also need to spend time proofing your writing since embarrassing spelling or grammar errors will only make you and your company look sloppy. With all of the other necessary commitments that you likely have and only so many hours in the day, it’s easy to make the blog your last priority. Though it may be tempting to just throw in the towel and give up, don’t!

A blog serves many purposes. It can provide a personable “voice” to your company and is a place to interact with your target audience. It is an outlet for them to connect with you and share their insights and concerns. In a blog, you have the opportunity to reply to their questions in a timely manner by responding directly or by reacting to their feedback in a new post. Blogging also has SEO benefits that shouldn’t be overlooked. Each new blog post is fresh content, and the search engines view sites that consistently have new and relevant content favorably.

Therefore, it’s important to keep at your blogging. This is especially true if your blog has been up and running for awhile. If this is the case, it is likely that you have developed a loyal following and the blog has played an integral role in developing your brand. Though less formal, a blog is an extension of your company and serves an important marketing communication function. Would you just shut down your website or stop advertising? Probably not, and you shouldn’t ditch your blog either.
