The Importance of Prioritizing High-Yield Digital Marketing Activities

Written by Nick Stamoulis

Digital marketing is an important part of your business. It can involve many tasks, all of which might seem equally important and worthy of your time and attention. There are certain activities though that deserve and require more of your energy. These are your high-yield activities.

What are high-yield activities? High-yield activities are those that produce the most results for your effort. The Pareto Principal says that 80% of your results will come from approximately 20% of your efforts. If you are spending a lot of time on your digital marketing tasks, but noticing that the results aren’t reflecting your effort, you can assume that your effort is being placed on the wrong activities or you are spreading yourself too thin. Either way, the high-yield activities are not getting the attention they deserve.

The first step in this case is to determine which activities are providing the best results. To do this, you need to look at all of your digital marketing and figure out the success rate of each one. If your research determines that your social media is producing the best results out of all your digital marketing, you will want to devote more of your time to social media.

You may spend more time interacting with followers, posting relevant links, and advertising what you have to offer, without going overboard, of course. If it’s determined that social media is actually producing the worst results, you will want to reduce time spent in this area. Even if it’s an area you enjoy focusing on, it is a waste of time if the results are not worth it.

You also want to make sure you aren’t spending too much time taking care of small details. This can include things like double-checking content for grammar mistakes and typos. While these are important things to catch, you shouldn’t spend too much time reviewing your content in case you missed something.

You may notice or have it brought to your attention by someone else that an error exists. At this time, you can quickly correct the mistake as it doesn’t take a lot of time. You want to spend your time on bigger, high-yield activities such as creating new content.

Speaking of content, it’s important to know which of your content is getting the most hits. If you are writing three new blog posts a week, but results show that your videos are getting the majority of hits, it makes sense to spend less time writing blog posts and more time making videos. Give your target audience what they want and you will get what you want in return.
