Consider SEO Training IF…

Writing by Nick Stamoulis in SEO

If you are looking to improve the visibility of your website in the search engines and online overall in order to generate more traffic, SEO is definitely the way to go. SEO is an industry that’s always evolving and there are so many ways to go about getting SEO work done. There are plenty of SEO professionals out there that work in house, for agencies, or work independently as a consultant that you can hire. However, sometimes the best solution for your business is simply to gain some knowledge through SEO training and work at it on your own.

SEO training is the best solution when:

You can’t hire an in house SEO professional

Good SEO professionals certainly don’t come cheap. Unless you are a large corporation that has the budget for it, an in house SEO professional is usually out of the question since taking on their salary is a huge commitment. It’s also going to take time to properly train them on the non-SEO related ins and outs of your business that will help them shape their strategy.

You can’t afford to outsource to an agency

First things first. There are tons of SEO firms out there that are looking for your business and their contract rates can vary greatly. It can be confusing to see similar looking services that are priced so differently from one another. If you know very little about SEO, it’s easy to just go with the cheapest option. Don’t do it. The price of the work should correlate with the quality of the work and if it’s really cheap, it’s definitely too good to be true. Unless you can afford to hire a reputable white hat SEO firm that will do the work well, don’t bother. It’s much better to spend the money on investing in your own SEO knowledge and working at it on your own to build some momentum.

SEO is handled by the existing marketing department

SEO definitely falls under the marketing umbrella, but that doesn’t mean that all marketers know how to do it or know how to do it well. You can’t just pass off SEO responsibilities to your marketing person or marketing team and expect them to immediately “get it”. An SEO training session will provide attendees with a fundamental knowledge about how SEO works so that they can then apply that knowledge to your website.

You just launched the website

A big SEO success factor is the trust and domain age of a website. A brand new website is going to take much longer to see SEO success than an existing website that just needs some SEO tweaks. You can hire an SEO firm to help you out but it’s going to take quite a while to see any return on that investment. When you are just starting out, it’s recommended to do SEO on your own to start and build some momentum at first that way. Once your site is in a better position to succeed, then the investment in an SEO firm will be worth it.
