Want the Best SEO? You’re Partially Responsible!

Even if you’ve outsourced your SEO, business and website owners are still partially responsible for the long term success of their SEO campaign. While a white hat SEO provider is going to do everything in their power to help your website succeed, they can’t do their job with one hand tied behind their back! It takes the combined efforts and knowledge of you AND your SEO partner to create, implement and continue the best SEO campaign possible.

1. You have to implement the changes.
As a full service SEO client, your SEO partner is going to look at every page of your website and come up with both high-level (site wide) and page-by-page SEO recommendations designed to properly optimize your website. However, the final implementation of these recommendations is up to you. Your SEO partner can’t make you make any changes to your website (although they should do their best to explain the reasoning behind their advice), but that means you can’t hold them responsible for a lagging SEO campaign six months from now. If you don’t do your part and implement the changes they recommended than there is only so much they can do offsite. Your website is the cornerstone of your SEO, social media and content marketing campaigns. If you want the best SEO possible you have to implement the changes (or give your SEO firm and their developer the go-ahead to make them for you) from the get-go.

2. You have to create great content.
Unless you’ve hired your SEO partner to also produce content (for your own blog, article marketing or guest blogging opportunities) you as the website owner are responsible for turning out great content on a regular basis. While onsite optimization and white hat link building are incredibly important, content is really what is going to propel your SEO forward. Great content, both onsite and off, gives your SEO team the ability to target more long-tail keywords and build valuable inbound links to internal pages on your site. It also helps fuel your social media marketing strategy, keeping your profiles supplied with fresh content and giving your social network a reason to stay engaged with your brand. More content also gives the search spiders more information to grab onto, helping improve your overall search engine presence. The best SEO campaigns run on consistently created content! Without it, your SEO partner can only take your campaign so far.

3. You have to set realistic expectations.
Asking your SEO partner to double your traffic in 6 months isn’t realistic. Even with the best SEO campaign ever created no white hat SEO firm would make that promise; you can’t guarantee SEO results! Many site owners put a lot of pressure on their SEO partners to rush results. And while I can understand the need to see ROI, SEO is not something you can rush and expect long-lasting, positive results. The best SEO campaigns are designed to work long-term and build momentum overtime.
